Entry requirements

Find out more about Entry requirements

This degree has three stages, each comprising 120 credits.

You’ll study a 60-credit introductory business and management module. Thereafter, for your remaining 300 credits, you&/courses/business-management/degrees/ba-business-management-accounting-q91-acc/39;ll combine the study of business and management with financial and management accounting practice and strategy, giving you essential skills that are applicable to a wide range of careers in business and finance.

Prepare for OU study with an Access module

We offer two starting points depending on how confident you are or how long it’s been since you last studied. Choose to dive straight in at Stage 1, or if you’d prefer some extra preparation, you can get started with an optional Access module. See Entry requirements for more details.

You’ll study an introduction to the essential disciplines of business and management and the functions of human resource management, marketing, and finance. You&/courses/business-management/degrees/ba-business-management-accounting-q91-acc/39;ll also be introduced to the principles of financial and management accounting to develop your financial skills. You’ll complete this stage by studying either economics and personal finance or analysing data to make informed business decisions.

Stage 2 begins with focusing on the essential functions of an organisation: human resources; marketing; operations management; and accounting and finance. You’ll then explore the differences in financial accounting, building an understanding of audit practice, and see how business decisions are based on financial analysis.

Stage 3 begins with the fascinating world of strategy – covering the analysis of the environment where organisations operate and the choice and implementation of strategic options. You&/courses/business-management/degrees/ba-business-management-accounting-q91-acc/39;ll then explore management accounting and international financial concepts for decision making purposes within organisations.

To complete your degree, you can either focus on entrepreneurship and innovation, marketing communications and digital marketing, or learn about leadership in precarious times and opportunities to develop positive leadership.

This degree does not qualify you as an accountant (for which you need to pass the qualifying examinations of a professional accounting body).
