Accessibility Statement for Principles of social research: sociology special project module (D328)
Mode of study
Much of this module’s study materials are online. They consist of pages of text with images, audio or video clips of around 10 minutes in length (all with transcripts and/or subtitles), diagrams, interactive media, animations, activity questions, and multiple-choice self-assessed quizzes. Online materials also include links to external resources, online forums and tutorial rooms.
Tuition strategy
This module provides a range of learning events, online tutorials and discipline-wide day schools, and workshops. Although not compulsory, tutorials will help you consolidate your learning.
Working with others
You’ll be encouraged to work with other students, but this is not assessed. This includes working with fellow students in forums and providing feedback to other students.
Mathematical and scientific expressions and notations
Part of the module will require that you engage with basic mathematics, and the interpretation of graphs. However, this does not form a significant part of the module, and you will be able to avoid this in your assessment if you choose.
Diagrams and other visual content
The study materials contain some diagrams, graphs and photographs. Reading and interpreting these forms part of studying this module. We provide descriptions for all the components of these where they are essential to learning.
Finding information
You will be required to search for, and make use of online academic sources, and we assess this. Accessing and using online academic sources will form part of your dissertation project. We will provide guidance and support to guide you through this process.
Assessment
This module has four tutor-marked assignments and a 7,000-word dissertation, which will form part of your end-of module assessment.
Feedback
You’ll receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted tutor-marked assignments (TMAs). This will help you to reflect on your TMA performance. You should refer to it to help you prepare for your next assignment.
Schedule
We structure all University modules to a set timetable and you’ll need time-management skills to keep your studies on track. We’ll support you in developing these skills.
