Accessibility Statement for Applied social work practice (K216)
Mode of study
This practice-based module has an extensive placement and three blocks of study supported by online and print materials and online discussions with your tutor and other K216 students. Most of this module’s study materials are online and are composed of pages of text with images, audio/video clips of up to 10 minutes long (all with transcripts), diagrams, interactive media, animations and multiple choice self-assessed quizzes. Online materials also include links to external resources, online forums and online tutorial rooms. Printed materials are provided for some of the module content including a book of readings which accompanies the online learning guides, the practice learning guides and the module guide.
Tuition strategy
This module provides a series of practice skills workshops: an introductory workshop which is held online and 6 compulsory practice skills workshops (5 face-to-face and one online). These workshops form part of the practice skills requirements for the social work requirements in each nation. The workshops will help you consolidate your learning and gain support from your tutor and other students.
Working with others
You’ll be required to work with other students. This includes looking at, and commenting on, others’ work, reflecting on others&/courses/k216-accessibility-statement/39; comments on your work, and/or working together with fellow learners on a project or task.
Practical work
A key part of Applied social work practice is an extensive social work placement. This is an assessed part of the module. You should consult your sponsor if you consider you might need reasonable adjustments made in your practice environment. Discuss and record this in your Practice Learning Agreement meeting. The practice skills workshops includes some collaborative group work.
Diagrams and other visual content
The study materials contain some diagrams and photographs. Reading, interpreting and producing examples of these is an important part of the study of this module and is assessed. Figure descriptions are provided for all figures.
Finding information
You may be required to search for, and make use of, third party material online and this is assessed. Alternatives for required research material can be provided to enable you to meet the Learning Outcomes of the module.
Assessment
This module has Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs), which must be submitted online via the OU electronic TMA system, interactive Computer-Marked Assignments (iCMAs) completed online, and an End-of-Module Assessment submitted online. A Practice Assessment Report must be submitted in hard copy.
Feedback
You’ll receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs). This will help you to reflect on your TMA performance. You should refer to it to help you prepare for your next assignment.
Schedule
All University modules are structured according to a set timetable and you will need time-management skills to keep your studies on track. You will be supported in developing these skills.
