Mode of study

Much of this module’s study materials are online. Online materials are composed of pages of text with images, audio/video clips of around 5–20 minutes long (all with transcripts/subtitles), diagrams, interactive media, animations and multiple choice self-assessed quizzes. Online materials also include links to external resources, online forums and online tutorial rooms. Printed materials are provided for some module content.

Tuition strategy

This module includes online tutorials. Although not compulsory, tutorials will help you consolidate your learning and are highly recommended.

Working with others

You’ll be expected to work with other students. This may include looking at, and commenting on, others’ work, reflecting on others’ comments on your work, and/or working together with fellow learners on a project/task. Please contact us to find out more if you would like support with this aspect of your learning.

Diagrams and other visual content

The study materials contain some diagrams, graphs and photographs. Figure descriptions are provided for most figures. If you have any concerns about this aspect of the module, please contact us for further advice.

Finding information

You may be required to search for, and make use of, third party material online and this is assessed. Alternatives for required/assessed research material can be provided to enable you to meet the Learning Outcomes of the module. Please contact us if you have any concerns about this aspect of your learning.

Assessment

This module has four Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs), which must be submitted online via the OU electronic TMA system, and an End-of-Module Assessment (emTMA) submitted online. TMA04 is formative only and will help you prepare for the EMA.

Feedback

You’ll receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs). This will help you to reflect on your TMA performance. You should refer to it to help you prepare for your next assignment. Please contact your tutor to discuss any concerns you have about this aspect of your learning.

Schedule

All University modules are structured according to a set timetable and you’ll need time-management skills to keep your studies on track. You’ll be supported in developing these skills. If you’re concerned about the time management required at undergraduate level, please contact us before you register on the module to find out what we can do to support you.

Specialist software

Students may be required to zip content. Information about this is available via the OU Computing Guide.
