Accessibility Statement for Physics and space (SM123)

Mode of study

All of this module&/courses/sm123-accessibility-statement/39;s study materials are delivered online. Online materials are composed of pages of text with audio and video clips (with transcripts/subtitles); diagrams and images; and interactive media. Online materials also include links to external resources, online forums and online tutorial rooms. Printable alternatives to some online content are provided, with the exception of videos and interactive media. If you require alternative formats to online materials you must tell us as soon as possible to discuss the options available.

Tuition strategy

This module offers online tutorials. Although not compulsory, attendance at tutorials will help you consolidate your learning. Online forums are also available.

Working with others

You will be required to work with other students and this is assessed. This includes looking at and commenting on others’ work; reflecting on others’ comments on your work; and/or working together with fellow learners on a project/task.

Practical work

The module makes use of several home and virtual (online) experiments, in which you will be required to collect and analyse simple data. This is a component of assessment. If you are unable to undertake the experiments we will provide alternative ways to enable you to take part. You will be required to work with other students on a group activity and this is assessed. You will also use third鈥憄arty websites and interactive software (both third-party and OU鈥憄roduced) as part of the learning activities, some of which may be assessed. If you are unable to undertake any of the essential activities we will provide alternative ways to enable you to take part and meet the required learning outcomes.

Mathematical and scientific expressions and notations

Mathematical and scientific symbols and expressions are used throughout the module and you will be required to use such notation within assessment.

Diagrams and other visual content

The study materials contain a considerable number of diagrams, graphs and photographs. Reading, interpreting and producing examples of these is an important part of the study of this module and is assessed. Figure descriptions are provided for most figures.

Finding information

You may be required to search for, and make use of, third party material online and this is assessed. Alternatives for required/assessed research material might be provided to enable you to meet the learning outcomes of the module.

Assessment

This module has Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs) that you must submit via the online TMA service and a remote exam.

Feedback

You will receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs). This will help you to reflect on your TMA performance. You should refer to it to help you prepare for your next assignment.

Schedule

All Open University modules are structured according to a set timetable and you will need time management skills to keep your studies on track. You will be supported in developing these skills.

Specialist software

This module uses specialist symbols that are not covered by standard accessibility tools. The module materials and assessment ask you to use the following specialist software/symbols: Python, and may not be fully accessible as a result.
