Mode of study
All of this module’s study materials are online. Online materials are composed of pages of text with images, audio and video clips (all with transcripts/subtitles), diagrams, interactive media, animations and voting polls. Online materials also include links to external resources, online forums and online tutorial rooms.
Tuition strategy
This module provides a range of online learning events delivered as online tutorials. Although not compulsory, attendance at tutorials will help you consolidate your learning.
Working with others
You will be required to work with other students, especially during tutorials and in forums. This includes looking at, and commenting on, others’ work and ideas, reflecting on others’ comments on your work and ideas, and/or working together with fellow learners on a task (e.g. during the tutorial). However, you will not be assessed on working with other students.
Diagrams and other visual content
The study materials contain a considerable number of visual materials such as photographs, diagrams and interactive timelines. Reading and interpreting these is an important part of the study of this module, but it is not assessed. Figure descriptions are provided for all figures.
Finding information
You will be required to search for, and make use of, third party material online and this is assessed. Alternatives for required/assessed research material are not provided. However, we provide copies of the assessed material if students cannot use online legal databases.
Assessment
This module has two tutor-marked assignments (TMAs) and an end-of-module assessment. One of the TMAs takes form of an oral presentation, which you will be asked to record using the OU Audio Recording Tool. An alternative assessment will be provided if needed for disability reasons.
Feedback
You will receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted tutor-marked assignments (TMAs). This will help you to reflect on your TMA performance. You should refer to it to help you prepare for your next assignment.
Schedule
All University modules are structured according to a set timetable and you will need time-management skills to keep your studies on track. You will be supported in developing these skills.
